Gong Xi Fa Cai. Happy Chinese New Year.
This is especially for my colleague Anisah, and my self-proclaimed-anti-social niece. Yes, one of my brothers is married to a Chinese. And, I always believe he (that brother) has the most successful best functioning family in The Clan.
Bukan saja dari segi akademik (i.e. kadar masuk universiti 100% -- and the eldest is currently doing her PhD in Oxford University). More than anything, I'm simply impressed with the upbringing. All the kids are very grounded, in many ways. The result of a unique parenting style: very protective mother (typical Chinese?) and super laid-back father (typical Kadus)!
I'm starting to believe the theory that -- Kadazan+Chinese produces the best genetic. [Ooops! Don't shoot me! J] May be that's the reason why Sino-Kadazan is the only 'created race' in Malaysia, which is legally recognised. Yes, it is an official race (on its own!) under the Perlembagaan!
For years, that brother has been trying (implicitly) to persuade me to find a Chinese potential bride gf. I don't know why. Probably, being the only member of The Clan celebrating CNY -- it makes him feeling different and odd. Alienated may be? LOL.
In his very own words: "Kalau tidak mau Dusun, jangan cari Malaya. Cina tidak apa." Well, I don't think he really meant it, or wanted me to take the advice seriously. So, I never did do. J

Bagi yang selalu berkunjung ke blog ini, tentu pernah terbaca tentang ramalan-ramalan saya untuk tahun 2008. Salah satunya:
"Seorang (lagi) politikus profail tinggi akan meletak jawatan kerana skandal seks"
Itu akan berlaku tak lama lagi. Tunggu dan lihat saja. Another premature casualty for a Johorian politician? Very likely.

Satu lagi ramalan saya: kerajaan akan belasah pembangkang dalam pilihanraya!
Membaca pandangan para blogger tentang pilihanraya memang menarik. Salah satu blog yang selalu saya layari ialah KickdeFella. Bila membaca komen-komen pro-pembangkang di sana, saya kadang-kadang terasa sangat cuak.
Adakah sistem pendidikan negara tidak efektif? Atau terlalu ramaikah penduduk Malaysia yang diam-diam mengidap sindrom autism? I pity these people, who still struggle to distinguish dreams from reality. Yes, it's your basic-human-right to remain stupid and ignorant. But you're also spared the right to grow up. Life is about making the wiser choice, when you need to. And trust me, being an idealist is not always the trendiest thing on earth.
Saya bukan agen propaganda kerajaan. Jauh sekali mahu jadi pengipas dan pencacai. Tapi realitinya jelas. Pada pilihanraya kali ini, peluang pembangkang mencabar kerajaan (to challenge, and NOT to win the whole thing!) sama tinggi dengan kebarangkalian itik boleh mengawan dengan kambing lalu menghasilkan binatang baru, imbing. It's not impossible. It's beyond impossible. Yes, extremely not possible.
I had said this before. I say it again: if the oppositions can better what they achieved in the previous election -- I would eat my own pubic hair. In public, no less. I don't hate dislike the oppositions. No. But I hate extremists. Of any kind.

Sudah dua hari saya asyik makan Pizza yang dipesan dari sini. Two days of non-healthy diet. Well, here is how I compensate it. Resepi ekonomik (masa dan ongkos!) yang terbaru. J
Tuna Salad
£1.50-and-15-minute Under for Two

Ingredients
185g Tuna in Sunflower Oil (33p)
1 Red/Green Pepper (35p)
1 Red/White Onion (15p)
3-6 Hot Chillies (20p) [Optional]
1 Green Apple (15p)
Sugar & Salt
Black Pepper [Optional]
200g Basmati Rice (25p)
2 Eggs (15p) |

Step 1 (5 minutes)
Start by cooking the basmati rice.
Slice the veggies.
Mix them all in a salad bowl. |

Step 2 (3 minutes)
Add the tuna flakes into the mixed veggies.
(Yes, including the preservative sunflower oil
that they come with)
Add some sugar and salt.
Black pepper is optional.
Get everything mixed. Evenly.
Put the final mixture into the fridge. |

Step 3 (5 minutes)
Prepare your simple-express-omelette (telur dadar).
Or, you may also get it done in mata-kerbau style.
By this time, your rice should be ready.
Unless you forgot to switch on the rice-cooker.
Serve the hot basmati and telur dadar,
with your semi-chilled tuna salad.
Yes, enough to feed two hungry mouths
(with normal apetite!). |

Just returned. Already a tonne of work and several datelines loom. Good thing I had a holiday, otherwise I think I'm checking into rehab in Bukit Padang!
Hmm, my theory on (certain) mixed marriages; the ones that work are because couples really work on it because failure is more unacceptable. Where failures are more "acceptable" to both families, then the impetus to make it work is even stronger. But hey, shouldn't all marriages be like that?

Alaaa... gabung dengan cuti dua hari raya cina, cuti hujung minggu, di sini la saya untuk 2.5 minggu. Sekarang tambah lagi 0.5 minggu sebab ada urusan di KL. Esok malam naik ketapi ke KL. This is the 5th day of Chinese New Year. Only today I've got wifi in Taiping. In a restaurant serving the hawker food I'm used to while growing up! This place is definitely one of my favourites.
Thank you for the new year wishes. It's a pleasant surprise. The same good wishes to you too. Everyone can celebrate, at the end of the day, we are all the same inside. It's only some myopic system which seeks to emphasis the differences rather than the similarities. | |

I thought you wanna visit Norwich earlier this year. :)
I would be happy to oblige what ever my mum said (i.e. marriage). As the saying goes, mother always knows the best. Unfortunately, my mum passed away long years ago. Masa tu belum baru saja melepasi fasa akil baligh. :)
BTW, it seems that spring may come early in Norwich this year. Hari ini saja, sepanjang hari cerah dan terik! :)

Apa pun ramalan awak saya lebih suka mengimaginasikan kepala saya bakal bercerai dari badan soon. Bukan saya sudah kehilangan rasa optimistik, tapi pesan dari my psychologist to be mentally prepare for the worst.
Lambat atau cepat kita tetap akan mati, juga. Apa cara mati pun rasanya tetap sakit, nabi kekasih Allahpun rasa sakit.
Bayangkan satu batang yang berduri dimasukakan dari hidung hingga ke hujung kaki. Kemudian batang berduri tersebut ditarik sama ada berhati-hati atau tergopoh-gapah mengikut darjah amalan kita semasa hidup. Nah itulah dia rasa sakitnya saktratul maut.
Ntah mungkin saya terlalu terbawa-bawa dengan cerita Nujum Pak Belalang yang saya tonton ketika cuti Hari Raya Cina ni. | |

emak saya mixed: Melayu-Cina. Tapi nenek (Cina) besar dalam keluarga Melayu. Jadi kami tak terdedah dengan budaya lain.
But my mom and her sister has always been different from other Malay moms. I always heard people said genetics help, but it's the other factors that accumulate and matter the most. Guess in our family, there's an exception!
Mom used to say,"You can marry whoever you want to, but I would hope he'll be a Malay." But recently, she shifted gear and omitted the 'but' part.
And I couldn't be happier! Haha.

Mungkin pembangkang akan dapat lebih undi tahun ni. But that doesn't necessarily mean they will win more seats. I have the feeling that only PAS will make a significant improvement. But then.. PAS bukan boleh dianggap pembangkang tulen, kan? Half-gomen [ADUN], half-pembangkang [PARLIMEN].
PKR will lose convincingly. Another Ijok deja vu for this party. DAP gitu-gitu jugaklah. Definitely not better than the pervious election.

i'm sorry. but i could not stop myself from commenting on ur entries (especially anything related to politics).
i agree with you, the opposition would not get more votes than the government. its true!. but they could win more seats than the last election.
some parties are working "extra hard" to do campaigning and come up with creative manifesto.
i'm like u. not a government supporter nor a opposition supporter. i'm Neutral.
my prediction, no my guess, would be the government will win (as usual), but the opposition will win more seats.
i'm not as "high spirited" as kickdefella or his commenters. but they do ve a point. what do u think?
reading their entries is like listening to my father preaching about how great the government should fall..
anyway, waiting for ur comment... as a neutralist

Hmmm.... I've always been a strong supporter of mixed-race marriages... there's just something about children of mixed marriages... more often than not, they get the best of two worlds... or become an EXCELLENT combo of the different cultures that they are exposed to...
Kinda like the nice combo of colours in the recipe ;)
